NFC SAFETY TAGS FAQs + TROUBLESHOOTING

Everything you need to know about using and troubleshooting your Halos & Miracles NFC Safety Tag.

Your NFC Safety Tag was created to provide an additional layer of safety and an easy way for important information to be accessed when needed.Every Halos & Miracles NFC Safety Tag is individually programmed and tested before shipping to ensure the NFC chip is functioning and your requested information has been properly programmed.Having trouble scanning? Most issues can be resolved with a few quick troubleshooting steps below.

How do I scan my NFC Safety Tag?

Unlock your smartphone and hold the back of the phone near the tag for a few seconds.

The location of the NFC reader varies by phone, so you may need to slowly move the back of the phone around the tag until your device detects it.

Once detected, your phone should display a notification or prompt allowing you to access the information or action programmed onto the tag.

Do I need an app to scan the tag?

No. A separate app is not required for normal use on a compatible smartphone with NFC tag reading enabled.

An NFC-reading app, such as NFC Tools, can be useful for troubleshooting if your phone isn’t automatically detecting the tag.

My NFC Safety Tag isn’t scanning. What should I try?

First, don’t worry! Your tag was individually tested before it was shipped.

Try these troubleshooting steps:

  • Make sure your phone is unlocked and the screen is on.
  • Make sure NFC/tag reading is enabled in your phone’s settings, if applicable.
  • Remove thick, magnetic, wallet-style or card-holding phone cases.
  • Hold the phone close to the tag for a few seconds rather than quickly tapping it.
  • Slowly move the back of your phone around the tag to locate your phone’s NFC reader.
  • Restart your phone and try again.
  • Try scanning the tag with another NFC-compatible smartphone.

NFC reader locations and settings vary between devices, so a tag may scan differently from one phone to another.

My phone detects the tag in NFC Tools, but nothing happens when I scan it normally. What should I do?

If an NFC-reading app can detect and read your tag, but your phone doesn’t respond during a normal scan, check your phone’s NFC/tag-reading settings and permissions.

Some devices may require additional permissions or settings to automatically read NFC tags.

For example, certain Android devices may have NFC-related permissions under Special App Access or other device settings.

Because menu names and settings can vary by phone model and software version, refer to your device manufacturer’s instructions for enabling NFC tag reading.

I use Tap to Pay. Doesn’t that mean NFC is already working?

Tap to Pay uses NFC technology, but being able to make contactless payments does not necessarily mean your phone is configured to automatically read NFC tags.

If your tag can be detected using an NFC-reading app but doesn’t trigger a normal notification, check your phone’s NFC/tag-reading permissions and settings.

How can I check whether my phone is detecting the NFC chip?

You can use an NFC-reading app such as NFC Tools as an additional troubleshooting step.

Open the app, select READ, and hold your phone near the tag.

If the app detects the tag and displays the programmed information, your phone is successfully communicating with the NFC chip.

Please do not edit, erase or rewrite your NFC Safety Tag while troubleshooting.

Why does my tag work with one phone but not another?

NFC reader locations, settings and scanning behavior vary between smartphones.

One phone may detect the tag immediately while another may require different positioning or changes to its NFC/tag-reading settings.

If your tag successfully scans with another compatible smartphone, this is a good indication that the tag is functioning and the original device may require additional troubleshooting.

Can I change the information programmed onto my tag?

Because your tag contains important contact or safety information, we recommend contacting Halos & Miracles before attempting to change the programming yourself.

Editing, erasing or rewriting the NFC chip incorrectly may remove the information currently stored on your tag.

Will every smartphone scan an NFC Safety Tag?

No. The smartphone must support NFC tag reading, and its NFC functionality must be enabled or properly configured.

Compatibility, NFC reader location and scanning behavior can vary by device and software version.

Where should I attach my NFC Safety Tag?

Attach your tag somewhere that is visible and easily accessible, such as a backpack, sports bag or other personal item.

We recommend placing it somewhere another person could easily notice and access the tag if assistance were ever needed.

I’ve tried everything and my tag still won’t scan. What should I do?

Before contacting us, please:

1. Try scanning the tag with another NFC-compatible smartphone.

2. Use NFC Tools → READ to determine whether your phone detects the chip.

If you’re still experiencing an issue, please contact Halos & Miracles and include:

  • Your phone make and model
  • Whether the tag scans using another smartphone
  • Whether NFC Tools detects the tag
